UH Sustainable Fisheries Program
The UH Mānoa Sustainable Fisheries Graduate Program is a transdisciplinary program across six UH schools and colleges, including Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge. The program welcomes students from diverse academic backgrounds, including Hawaiian Studies, and aims to build local capacity and uplift Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian), Pacific Islander, and local students into fisheries careers and decision-making positions where they have historically been severely underrepresented. Students learn about tropical Pacific fisheries through diverse approaches to research and management that center community-based approaches, weave multiple knowledge systems, and build equitable, reciprocal, and ethical partnerships. The program offers in-person Master’s and PhD degrees and a graduate certificate, with an online professional Master’s degree beginning in Fall 2027.
